Course DescriptionFrom hiking in the Rocky Mountains and volunteering at the community garden, to making artwork about land use or creating an energy conservation plan, our personal engagement with the environment impacts the way we think about land use, natural resources, agriculture, biodiversity, industrialization, and pollution. The Learning Community brings together ecological concepts and artistic principles to help us get up close and personal with nature, investigate the ways artist and scientists engage the natural world, learning about the earth’s vital systems, and consider creative ways forward toward imagining sustainable futures. Our collective endeavors will include reading, discussion, independent labs, art making, reflection, and field trips to local destinations as well as a weekend in Colorado to explore sights that may include a train ride up to Pike’s Peak, hikes through the stunning red rocks of Garden of the Gods, and star gazing over Great Sand Dunes National Park.
